Everyman genius

Booking my tickets for next month’s Isle of Islay (rhymes with ‘Tyler’, not ‘hay’, apparently) Jazz Festival, I was reminded of one of my favourite recent expressions, on a thread where a newby was asking for pointers on accessible modern jazz. One respondent began his reply with: ‘Assuming you’re not talking fire-in-a-pet-shop jazz….’ Brilliant! I will never be able to think of it any other way – or encounter it without instantly thinking of that tag.
